Jan Dingle

Now resident in Thurne Jan originally studied graphic design at Hornsey college of art turning to etching by chance while her children were growing up. Now an established etcher, her subjects are still of waterways, especially the Norfolk broads. The etchings are made completely by hand on copper plates using wax grounds and resins and printed by hand on a press resembling an old-fashioned mangle, using thick felt blankets on a steel bed. Etchings can only be limited edition prints, the edition size being determined not only by how many wished but also by the soft copper plates; each one is inked by hand for each print and is therefore unique.
